If it is a festival day, one can expect at least half a dozen films to hit the screens. But this Diwali is different as only five films are scheduled to release — the Arjun-starrer Vallakottai, the Danush-starrer Uthamaputhiran, Mynaa, directed by Prabhusolomon, Va Quarter Cutting, directed by Puskar-Gayathri, and newcomer Ra. Kalaimurugan's Chithira Poove. At the last minute, one or two small-budget films may join the fray. s. r. ashok kumar takes a look at the ine-up.
Vallakkottai

Director's Cut: Vallakkottai is an out and out commercial film where the lead players, Arjun and Haripriya, have done a wonderful job. It has comedy, action and romance. As Arjun plays the lead, one can expect fireworks in the action sequences.
Mynaa
Cast: Vidarth, Amala Paul, Thambi Ramaiya, Sethu and Poovitha

Director's Cut: Mynaa has a powerful storyline with a stunning climax. What begins as childhood friendship blossoms into love in a rustic ambience. Shot in natural light in 180 locations, the film features actors sans make-up.
Uthamaputhiran
Cast: Dhanush, Genelia, Vivek, K. Bhagyaraj, Karunas, Sundararajan, Ashish Vidyarthi, Ambika and Rekha

Cameraman: Balasubramaniam
Director's Cut: A light-hearted film, Uthamaputhiran is devoid of violence. It will appeal to all age groups. Another highlight is four directors have acted in the film — Bhagyaraj, Sundararajan, Sreenath and Rajesh Lingam.
Va Quarter Cutting
Cast: Shiva, SP. Charan, Lekha Washington, Kalyan, John Vijay and Abhinayashree
Direction: Pushkar and Gayathri
Music: G. V. Prakash Kumar
Cameraman: Nirav Shah
Directors' Cut: The film showcases the night life of the working class in Chennai with a difference. The story happens in less than 12 hours of a night. It's quite different from our earlier Oram Po. It is a comedy with romance and other elements thrown in for good measure.
Chithira Poove
Cast: Sandeep, Thamarai, Vagai Chandrasekar, Sabitha Anand and Singamuthu
Direction and Music: Ra. Kalaimurugan
Cameraman: Ku. Thamizhagaran
Director's Cut: Chithira Poove deals with female infanticide, which reportedly takes place in many parts of Dharmapuri. The story starts with the hero and the heroine in love. After marriage, they are blessed with a baby girl. This is when the problem starts.
