AR Rahman bought a luxury flat in Los Angeles

AR Rahman is staying 20 days of a month in US in an average and as of now he is putting himself in hotels. February this year, he started looking for a suitable house to buy and he has bought one now...

Music Maestro and double Oscar-winner AR Rahman is indeed making Hollywood his second home. Rahman has bought a posh apartment in Los Angeles, one of the costliest cities in the world. He is the only Indian composer to own a house in Los Angeles. Rahman has also designed how he wants his new home to look. That's not all, the composer has converted his new apartment into a state of-the-art recording studio. In fact, Rahman's now does his Hollywood projects and also fine tunes music for his world tour from his Los Angeles address. "Due to his constant trips to the USA (in this month alone Rahman must have flown to the US seven times while in the last couple of months, he must have gone there at least 20 times) it was convenient for Rahman to have a house than live in hotels," confirms Rahman's close aide. The aide reveals, "Rahman is always hard pressed for time. So, he decided that having an apartment cum studio would be very beneficial. He wanted to have a setting like he does in his Chennai home in which he also has a studio. When Rahman composes his music, he does not really move around. He likes to keep to himself and wait for the inspiration. So, his house is more like an office and a studio with basic amenities of a house thrown in."

We had heard that Kareena Kapoor will do anything for Boney Kapoor’s Milenge Milenge, but the truth is far from otherwise. The top actress has been giving grief to the producer by postponing and not giving dates to shoot the promotional video, which on her request is being shot separately, and not with Shahid. Kareena Kapoor After her break-up with Shahid Kapoor, it has become next to impossible to get both of them in the same frame. With Milenge Milenge being stuck in the pipeline for the longest time, this dilly-dallying by Bebo has been a further hindrance. A source from the unit reveals, “On Kareena’s say they decided to shoot the promotional video separately and merge them while editing. Shahid shot his part, and Bebo still had to finish her part. But the actress kept postponing and giving her dates to her other projects. She was busy shooting for Stepmom and now it is Golmaal 3 in Goa.” The source continues, “Boney had a word with Kareeena while she was in Goa and plans were also getting implemented for them to go shoot her part in Goa. But her hectic schedule in Goa also cancelled this plan. Now that she is returning back to Mumbai, he plans to get her dates and finish off her portion for the promotional video as soon as possible.” Boney Kapoor When contacted Boney he says, “The promotional video was never meant to be shot together. Shahid has already shot his part and Kareena was supposed to shoot separately her part when she was in town for Stepmom photo shoots, but it couldn’t happen then.” He adds, “Kareena is currently in Goa shooting for Golmaal 3 and will do her part very soon. We will be shooting in an outdoor location because we require a sunset scene.” Kareena Kapoor was unavailable for comment.

41st IFFI begins Nov 22 in Goa

Panaji, Nov 19 : The ten-day 41st International Film Festival of India (IFFI) shall commence on Nov 22 in Goa.

This year's festival shall feature important changes. The Competition Section has been made open to all feature films from across the world. Earlier, this section was restricted to feature films from Asia, Asia Pacific, Africa and Latin America. 18 films (15 foreign and 3 Indian) feature films have been short listed for participation. 

Another key change in this year's festival is the introduction of new awards viz., Best Actor and Best Actress under Competition Section. 

The Best Film would be awarded Golden Peacock and given a Prize money of Rs.40 lakh, the Best Director would be awarded Silver Peacock and given a Prize money of Rs.15 lakh, Best Actor would be given a Silver Peacock and given a Prize money of Rs.10 lakh, Best Actress would be given a Silver Peacock and given a Prize money of Rs.10 lakh, Special Jury Award given a Silver Peacock and given a Prize money of Rs.15 lakh. 

The Indian panorama shall feature 26 feature films, these include Achin Paakhi, Abohomaan, Maner Manush, Ami Aadu (Bengali), Three Idiots, Wake-up-Sid, Paa (Hindi), Kaal Chilambu (Malayalam), Ravanan (Tamil), Me Sindhuthai Sapkal (Marathi) which is the opening film of the Panorama, Shabari (Kannada), Swamyamsiddha (Odiya). There will be 21 Non-Feature Films showcased in the Indian Panorama. "Leaving Home" will be the opening film for the Non feature film category. 

Another key aspect of the festival will be the commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of the Film and Television Institute of India. 

Five non-feature films curated by the institute will be screened. As part of the celebrations of the Platinum Jubilee of Odiya Cinema, five Odiya films will be screened during the festival. There will also be screening of two films associated with the work of the 'Dada Saheb Phalke Awardees' namely V.K. Murti and D. Ramanaidu.

Apart from the above, birth centenary of luminaries of Indian Cinema which include Ashok Kumar shall be observed with the screening of their films. 

As part of the festival, a special screening of India's Oscar entry 'Peepli Live' in the presence of important cast and crew members is also scheduled. A key highlight of the festival pertains to the foreign section participation during the festival. 

There will be a Cannes Kaledioscope 2010, a comprehensive package of films that made into Cannes this year. The films include 'Film Socialism' by Jean Lun Godard. There will also be a package of ten Iranian films with high aesthetic content to be represented by respective film makers, cast and crew members. 

Amongst the retrospectives scheduled for prominent film makers, the list includes Jan Jakub Kolski Retrospective, Jim Jarmusch Restrospective, Michael Cacoyannis Retrospective and Mira Nair Retrospective. 

The country focus during the festival shall be Sri Lanka, Taiwaenese New Wave Cinema and a section on Australian Indigenous Fiction Films. IFFI would also pay homage to the Iconic French film maker, Eric Rohmer, who passed away this year. Six of his films would be screened. 

The ten day festival shall be inaugurated by Railway Minister Mamta Banerjee and the Chief Guest of the function will be the renowned film Producer and Director Yash Chopra.

Ashmit’s next target… Pamela???

The “Baywatch” babe Pamela Anderson is finally adding some spice to Indian reality show “Bigg Boss 4″. After grooving to Bollywood number ‘Dhak dhak karne lagaa’, she went ahead and sunbathed and mind you… She wasn’t alone. Actor Ashmit Patel joined her.

Anderson, who entered the show Tuesday night, wore a short blue spaghetti top teamed with skin tight shorts as she sunbathed in the garden of the “Bigg Boss” house in Lonavala, said a source.

Ashmit, her biggest fan in the house, joined her. He chose to remain bare bodied, and wore a blue and fluorescent orange trunks.

Ever since Anderson entered the show, Ashmit and model Hrishant Goswami have been smitten by her, and trying to gain attention.

In the meantime, the 43-year-old international star, as been trying everything Indian – including the dress, food and the typical Bollywood dance.

The recent comment made by Deepika Padukone, on Koffee with karen, about she gifting Ranbir Kapoor a condom, has raised a storm in the media.

While on the chat show with karan, during the rapid fire round, some of Deepika’s replies surprised both the host and the co-guest Sonam Kapoor.

When Deepika was asked what she would like to gift Ranbir, she said it would be “a pack of condoms”

The comment was perceived in different ways by the media. But Deepika, in a recent interview said that the comment was made tongue-in-cheek and need to be taken in light vein.

“It’s all in good humour. It’s not targeted at anybody…there is no negativity towards anyone. People need to have a sense of humour. If I go and sit quietly and be politically correct, it would have been so boring,” said Deepika who is quite surprised at all thetamasha over her comment.

Deepika Padukone dressed in floral print skirt and white tank at the unveiling of Break Ke Baad apparel line at Shoppers Stop in Juhu in Mumbai on Wednesday, November 17. She was at the event with co-star Imran Khan, 27, who was dressed in a blue and white plaid shirt with sleeves rolled up, khaki pants and brown suede shoes. 

 

After Love Aaj Kal, this is Deepika’s second film supported by Shoppers Stop merchandise.

The film is due for release on November 26.

Mother daughter duo, Tanuja and Kajol, will co-star in Toonpur Ka Superrhero, India’s first live animation film.

Tanuja will play Kajol’s reel life mom in a cameo appearance.

Tanuja and Kajol last co-starred in Bekhudi (1992), also as mother and daughter.

Toonpur Ka Superrhero will also see Ajay and Kajol back together after You Me Aur Hum (2008).

The real life couple earlier co-starred in Hulchul (1995), Gundaraj (1995), Pyar To Hona Hi Tha (1998), Dil Kya Kare (1999) and Raju Chacha (2000).

'Guzaarish' - big, beautiful, dazzling (IANS Movie Review - Rating: *****)

Film: 'Guzaarish'; Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Monikangana Dutta, Suhel Seth; Director: Sanjay Leela Bhansali; Rating: *****

Breathe a sigh of relief. During a year when cacophonic crassness masquerading as comic entertainment has been sanctioned by critics and the masses, 'Guzaarish' comes along to remind us that excellence is alive in our cinema. 

Ironically this wonderful work of art, nuanced and magical in its portrayal of an unstoppable spirit's quest to juice life to its fullest, is about dying. If the journey towards death in art can be so mystically explored, then let's embrace mortality as a stepping stone to immortality and a film about dying as a sign of cinema not dying on us. Not yet. 

Only those who suffer the numbing pain of isolation would know what it feels like. Dilip Kumar in 'Devdas', Guru Dutt in 'Pyasa', Meena Kumari in 'Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam' and Nutan in 'Bandini' communicated to the audience the indescribable pain of solitude. 

Ethan, as played by Hrithik Roshan in 'Guzaarish', is so bemused by adversity that he can actually look at his own suffering with dispassionate humour. 

'Guzaarish' is a joyous, rapturous and ecstatic celebration of life. Those familiar with the art of Sanjay Leela Bhansali know how ably and ecstatically he transports his characters into a universe of seamless drama played at an octave where most cinematic symphonies crack up and topple over into high-pitched extravagance.

Not Bhansali's cinema. Played at the highest possible scale, his drama unfolds in wave after wave of rapturous splendour. His characters occupy a space that defies definition and seduces audiences into celebrating a state of sublimity and splendour. Ethan's inert physicality is alchemized into an ambience of animated joy. His spirit dances and sings at the sheer pleasure of every moment that is given to him to live. He radiates joy. We feel his profound happiness at the gift of life. 

No film in living memory has brought out the sheer blessing of being alive with such spirit and glory. While Shah Rukh Khan's 'Devdas' in Bhansali's opulent opera was a character broken in spirit, Hrithik's Ethan in 'Guzaarish' is irreparably damaged in body. But his spirit soars, his eyes light up like thousands of stars every time Sophie walks in.

That Sophie is played by Aishwarya Rai is a stroke of genius that goes a long way in giving 'Guzaarish' its flavour of exceptional elegance. No other director brings out the quiet grace and the understated beauty of this screen diva's personality with as much intelligence and spontaneity as Bhansali. In 'Guzaarish', Aishwarya is far more delicate and nuanced in conveying the unspoken pain of a love that has no tomorrow than she was in 'Devdas'.

Aishwarya imbues her role with a resplendent grace. Love in 'Guzaarish' is expressed with subtle smirks, gentle smiles and hints of a smothered passion that could erupt any time, if only destiny didn't choose to be so mean to the spirited. 

The scenes between Ethan and Sophie, the backbone of Ethan's spine-challenged life, radiate an inner beauty and wisdom and underline the director's enormous understanding of the self-negation that a love relationship requires.

'Guzaarish' is Bhansali's most tender and evocative film to date. It layers the pain of a dying body with the passion of an unstoppable spirit as manifested in Hrithik's skilled and effortless performance as a quadriplegic who pledges to make every moment of his limited 'sau gram zindagi' pleasurable for himself an those around him.

Barring Amitabh Bachchan in 'Black' there has never been a better performance in a Bhansali film than Hrithik's in 'Guzaarish'. He grabs Ethan's role and makes the dying character come alive in delightful waves of provocative histrionics. And if we're talking chemistry between Hrithik and Aishwarya, then let's get one thing clear - this ain't 'Dhoom'. It's something far deeper and satisfying. 

The other performance that catches your attention is Aditya Roy Kapoor's. He is natural and vivacious and in-sync with the film's spirit of celebrating life. Monikangna Dutt is a looker. In her limited space, she lends some appeal to the proceedings. Suhel Seth, Shernaaz Patel and Rajit Kapur also make a lingering impact in a film that you carry home with you in an inviolable place in your heart. 

A word about Bhansali's music score. The songs communicate the rich tapestried emotions of lives that are determined to smile through an extraordinary tragedy. Every piece of music and song in 'Guzaarish' echoes the film's incandescent soul.

The film's technical excellence, particularly Sudeep Chatterjee's cinematography, is not dazzling and flamboyant in the way it was in 'Devdas'. In 'Guzaarish', the appeal is far more delicate and subtle. The deep but sober colours on screen reach out to you to enrich your life in ways that cinema was always meant to, until it was waylaid by the hooligans and imposters posing as filmmakers.

'Guzaarish' is the real thing. A big, beautiful, dazzling emotional movie experience. You won't see a better film this year.

Katrina sheds clothes for ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’

Whoa! Now this cannot get hotter!!!

Farah Khan has made the impossible possible. The otherwise camera shy Katrina Kaif drops her clothes and is seen draped in just a white satin sheet in the song Sheila Ki Jawani from her upcoming flick, Tees Maar Khan .

Farah says, “Sheila Ki Jawani was supposed to be a raunchy item Bhojpuri kind of song as Katrina’s a wannabe actress acting in sleazy films but the song shaped out to be classy and a mix between Chicago and Broadway.

I have never seen Katrina looking both hot and sensuous at the same time. In her earlier films, she’s dressed mostly like a Barbie doll.

Farah added, Katrina really trusted me and didn’t argue even once when I told her what she had to wear. She just told me that she needs to start working out and tone her body more”

“Her dedication is tremendous. She didn’t feel awkward with so many men around.
The more they screamed and cheered for her, the more she got a high and her energy levels increased.”

She accessorized with silver T strap heels and hoop earrings. Her hair was styled in loose waves with a side parting. Neutral lip gloss and red nail color to go with the dress rounded her crisp look.

German fans love King Khan

Shah Rukh finds out just how much fans love him in Germany. They even offer him free cab rides

They love Shah Rukh Khan in Germany. The superstar is in Berlin shooting for Don 2 and there's a crowd outside his hotel every morning just to meet him. It's the same scene when he returns at night from his shoot.

SRK happily obliges fans with autographs and poses for photographs. Says an eyewitness, "He does this every day without fail.

Fans queue outside the hotel even when it's freezing or if it rains. SRK even sends out for coffee and pizzas for those waiting for hours."

But it does get embarrassing when they refuse to accept payment for services rendered. Like the time he got a free cab ride in lieu of a pic and an autograph.

The lowdown

Here's what happened: After shooting, the Don 2 cast and crew indulge in soccer matches at a ground close to the hotel.

One day, it went on till 4.30 am. SRK decided to go out for coffee. Instead of calling for the hotel car, they hailed a cab.

As soon as they stepped in, the driver recognised SRK. When they reached their destination, the cabbie refused to let him pay for the ride.

Despite King Khan insisting, the driver in Berlin said he would accept only a picture with the actor as the fare because his daughter was a big fan.

Shah Rukh posed with the driver and signed an autograph for his daughter before thanking him and leaving.

Producer Ritesh Sidhwani confirms, "Yes, Shah Rukh is pretty famous among the local people and yes, the taxi ride was a impromptu plan as we decided to step out pretty late and this taxi guy refused to accept money from us."

Not For Me?
Incidentally, Hollywood actor Orlando Bloom, who was staying at the same hotel as SRK thought he was being stalked by paparazzi but was told by the hotel management that the fans outside the hotel were standing there for the Indian actor.

SRK, Salman, Katrina: In Step For Rs. 25 Crore Capital Wedding!

The big fat Indian wedding took a new upswing on the vulgarity scale. And it'll be capital gain at India's capital for those who're gonna perform for those Mega Bucks.

This time around, it's an alliance between the 'gutka' baron families that will pull in star power for the wedding, reception and assorted events. And as per sources, a kool Rs.25 crore is being lavished on the week long celebrations, which will unspool top drawer presence from B Town that includes Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and others.

Word has it that Katrina is all set to perform and rock(kkk) for an hour…having reportedly pocketed a kool Rs. one crore for it. 'Dabangg' dude Salman is also slated to perform at the wedding and his asking fee: merely Rs. two crore. The nuptial reception is also likely to witness the presence of Shah Rukh Khan alongside a whole lot of celebs from Hindi moviedom. As per highly placed sources, SRK's performance comes at a premium of Rs. 4 crore!

Meanwhile, quite recently, in the tradition of gyrating at events, Malaika Arora Khan is reported to have done the honours for a 'sangeet' ceremony of a famed textile brand.

A close pal told the media, "Malaika performed at the 'sangeet' coz' the family invited her personally, as they are friends."

Well, well, dear pal Malaika reportedly raked in close to Rs. 35 to Rs.40 lakhs for her groovy moves, though MAK is loathe to admit it… to the scribe tribe, of all people.

The news had been made official through the social networking site Twitter, but media speculations surrounding actress Ameesha Patel's life never seems to reach its end. Yes, we are talking about her relationship with London-based businessman Kanav Puri. 

While the media had previously announced that the couple has already tied the knot, Ameesha Patel never accepted the fact and the girl is now reportedly single. Speaking to the media, Ameesha Patel confirms the fact that she is indeed single. There Is no news yet on whether she is ready to mingle too! 

The actress has been away from the screen for the past couple of years but that does not mean that she has been away from hitting the headlines.

Big fat Bollywood wedding is on the cards for Saif and Bebo

While most actresses her age are avoiding marriage and queries related to it, Kareena Kapoor is open to tying the knot. The actress has been in a serious relationship with Saif Ali Khan, and is ready to get hitched after a year.

If the latest buzz in tinsel town is to be believed, Saif and Kareena are set to marry in 2012.

Kareena stated to news daily “Of course, I talk to Saif and my family. Saif is extremely supporting and he jokes that marriage is a taboo in our film industry.”

She further added, “Surely, there are norms that we can break but the fact is that the film fraternity considers a married actress a taboo.”

“Saif is so busy with his production and his films, so a wedding will happen but after a year maybe.”said the actress candidly.

Dus Ka Dum’ gets a new host.. Its Sanjay and not Salman…

Just a week back, it was Salman Khan who was going to host the show Dus Ka Dum. But now, news is that the show is going to get a new host and he is none other than and our very own Munna bhai Sanjay Dutt.
The channel tried its best to get the original host Salman Khan, but due to certain issues (financial), it didn’t succeed.

This is going to be Sanjay’s first show on small screen. Initially the actor was a bit reluctant, but after seeing Amitabh Bachchan’s phenomenal success as a host of KBC, Sanju baba was convinced.

It is heard that Anil Kapoor was first approached to be the host after Salman Khan refused to do the show. But since the actor is busy shooting for his Hollywood flick Mission Impossible 4, he couldn’t join the show.

Thus, Sanjay came in to the picture. The channel is reportedly paying him a whopping amount for hosting the show.

Let’s see how Sanjay takes the show to success.. It undoubtedly has to be different!

‘Im a wannabe actress’: Katrina Kaif..

The firangi babe, Katrina Kaif has improved manifold ever since her debut flick BOOM , which released in 2003. The actress now has very high hopes from her next, TEES MAAR KHAN, which has the Khiladi Akshay Kumar in the lead opp her. the flick is being directed by Farah Khan. The on-screen chemistry between Kats and Akki in TMK is simply superb!

The pretty actress reveals, “I play a wannabe actress. She is a very innocent girl. She doesn’t see the possibility of a person doing something wrong or anything bad. So Akshay has to run behind her from these situations she gets herself into.”

Telling us more about her character, Katrina says, “She’s very ambitious but in a very simple way, not in an intelligent way. It was fun. We all didn’t take ourselves too seriously. We just kind of went with the flow.”

This can’t get better than this. The Baywatch star, well known for her sex appeal, Pamela Anderson is set to make her entry into Bigg Boss early this week. her entry is surely gonna add lots of spice to the controversial reality show.

“Pamela Anderson is landing here on Monday from the US and will enter the ‘Bigg Boss’ house next week,” a Colors channel spokesperson is quoted as saying by a news agency.

Earlier there were rumors about her entering the show, but now it has been confirmed. The surviving inmates of the Bigg Boss are: Ashmit Patel, Shweta Tiwari, Manoj Tiwari, Sara Khan, Sameer Soni, Hrishant Goswami, Dolly Bindra, the Great Khali and Seema Parihar.

Amitabh Bachchan against to using word 'Bollywood': Amitabh Bachchan's disdain for the word Bollywood is as well known as his prodigal talent, and his vanity, and his periodic and indefatigable pursuit of the quixotic.

Bachchan has been campaigning against use of the word Bollywood to describe the Indian film industry for years, without enthusing many. From his tweet this morning, it is clear that he isn't giving up his crusade any time soon.

"FI : Film Industry, InFI : Indian Film Industry ... a much recommended and apt name than the other plagiarized often used euphemism !" he tweeted.

We are unabashed Bachchan admirers (Yes, we do admire people other than Vidya Balan.), but we feel it is time to give Mr. Bachchan a reality check, with due apologies if it makes him squirm.

Mr Bachchan please recall all the ridiculous movies that you made us, your fans, watch, just because we admired your talent. You made bank leading us into cinema halls, like a Pied Piper, to watch your films, only to leave us orphaned of our sanity with the pathetic fare that was dished out in those halls.


If you have any difficulty recalling the names of those movies, we are there to help.

Maybe some of those despicable apologies to cinema you headlined to help your producer friends, but you did so by cheating your fans!

You prostituted your talent, more unabashedly than a sex worker, so we prefer to call the Indian Film Industry Bollywood, not the euphemism that you want us to use - InFI.

By the way don't kid yourself. Bollywood is still serving much of the mindless fare that you headlined in the 1980s and 90s. It certainly doesn't represent India so doesn't deserve to be named after the nation.
