Mammootty, not Mohanlal to play the lead in 'Karuna'

Cochin, Oct.31 (NR): It was recently reported that Mohanlal would play the role of Upagupthan in 'Karuna' to be directed by Harikumar. 

It was also rumoured that M T Vasudevan Nair would script the film.

However, not it seems that the reports have turned out to be false. A film based on the story of Upagupthan and Vasavadatta is indeed being planned, and it would have Mammootty, instead of Mohanlal playing the lead role.

The film would be scripted and directed by K M Madhusoodanan who had directed the much critically acclaimed film 'Bioscope'. The film has been titled 'Karuna: The Return of Buddha'.

The locations of the film that would be jointly produced by Playhouse and NFDC would be Ocha in Madhya Pradesh and Madhura. M J Radhakrishnan would wield the camera.

Mammootty would play the role of a film director. The film being planned at a budget of two crores would reach the theatres by next March.
