Daayen Ya Baayen

Labels:

The first thing that catches your attention in DAAYEN YA BAAYEN is the breath-taking locales of Uttarakhand. In fact, you carry the stunning visuals in your heart as you exit from the auditorium. And that, in my opinion, is not good news for its makers. If you recall the scenic beauty, not the content, it means something is seriously wrong with that film. DAAYEN YA BAAYEN, to me, is akin to a beautiful painting on celluloid, minus soul.

DAAYEN YA BAAYEN may have been made with the right intentions, but the problem is that director Bela Negi has shot too much - some good, some pointless - and when you to try to encompass it all, it tells on the final product.

Ramesh [Deepak Dobriyal] returns from the city to his small remote village in the Himalayas. Armed with irrepressible enthusiasm, he hopes to be the breath of fresh air the village has been waiting for. But, instead, his quirky traits make him the joke of the village.
In a dramatic turn of events, a chance entry into a television contest wins him a swank luxury car, elevating Ramesh to heroic status overnight. Adored by children and admired by the locals, he becomes the focal point of the village. It forces him to live up to the status of a car owner and unwittingly, he turns into a borrower and, before long, he is unfathomably deep in liability.

Bela reserves the best for the first hour: the story moves rapidly, the humour is enjoyable and manages a smile on your face and the sundry characters come across so real. But the film loses focus in the post-interval portions. It lacks the meat to carry the story forward, the sub-plots aren't convincing at all and the pacing is lethargic, which makes you restless after a point. In fact, you fervently hope that the film would end soon.

Director Bela Negi's story and execution have a strictly narrow scope. The real star of the show is cinematographer Amlan Datta, whose cinematography captures the mountainous topography with flamboyance. The background score is appropriate, while the dialogues should be well received by the viewers.

Deepak Dobriyal does decently well as the typical clueless dreamer. Bharti Bhatt performs well as Deepak Dobriyal's wife. Badrul Islam is quite good. Manav Kaul is wasted. Pratyush leaves a mark in the role of Deepak's son.

On the whole, DAAYEN YA BAAYEN caters to a miniscule segment of moviegoers and even that segment of audience won't feel completely elated at the conclusion of the screening. The film has had an unsung release - there's no hype or awareness - and combined with the negligible appeal, will undeniably prove to be a disaster at the box-office.

Chithira Poove
Cast: Sandeep, Thamarai, Vagai Chandrasekar, Sabitha Anand and Singamuthu
Direction and Music: Ra. Kalaimurugan
Cameraman: Ku. Thamizhagaran

At 37, Aishwarya is a director's delight

Labels:

At 37, Aishwarya is a director's delight
New Delhi, Oct 31 (IANS) For most leading ladies in tinsel town, their career takes a downfall after they touch 30. But certainly not in the case of Aishwarya Rai, who continues to flourish in Bollywood as she turns 37 Monday and has two mega projects - 'Action Replayy' and 'Guzaarish' - lined up for release.

The former beauty queen has come a long way from being crowned Miss World in 1994, to working in Tamil films, moving to Bollywood and finally topping it up with international fame through movie projects as well as attending prestigious foreign film festivals.

But all through her 13-year film career, filmmakers feel she has remained a director's delight, and is here to stay for a long time to come.

'Aishwarya always followed me during the shooting of 'Taal', and is a complete director's actor. I'm proud she has evolved so much as an actor. She is giving good performances, she has achieved international fame, and she is leading a happy married life - what else can she ask for from life? But she is as grounded as ever,' filmmaker Subhash Ghai told IANS.

The director, who worked with Aishwarya in 1999, says the actress will 'definitely be in Bollywood for another 10 years' and is looking forward to associating with her once again.

Ace filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who gave Aishwarya's career a big push with 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' followed by 'Devdas', says she is a timeless beauty.

'Aishwarya is my muse, my jaan and I get terribly excited when I make a film with her because she is very, very special. Some people are timeless and Aishwarya will be there for another 20 years,' said Bhansali, whose third project with the actress, 'Guzaarish', releases Nov 19.

Aishwarya, who married actor Abhishek Bachchan in 2007, has broken the notion that married actresses discontinue their film careers... and her husband is proud of her.

'I feel great about Aishwarya's achievements, I'm very proud of her. Whatever adulation she has got, she truly deserves it. I'm happy that she broke the notion that women can't work after marriage. Why are we so regressive in our thinking? If she wants to work, her audience wants to see her, what is people's problem? I as a husband am very happy that she is doing so well. I think she is doing better work now,' Abhishek had said

Aishwarya started acting in 1997 with Tamil film 'Iruvar', followed by her Bollywood debut in the same year opposite Bobby Deol in 'Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya' - both of which flopped. But the next year, she won her first Filmfare Best Actress award South for Tamil film 'Jeans'. She also bagged the Filmfare Best Actress Award for Bhansali's 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam'.

She gave a power-packed performance in 'Taal', but then delivered a string of duds like 'Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai'(2000), 'Dhai Akshar Prem Ke'(2000), 'Albela' (2001), 'Hum Kisise Kum Nahi'(2001).

But it was Bhansali's 'Devdas' that resurrected her career and fetched her another Filmfare award in the Best Actress category.

She also gave good performances in 'Chokher Bali'(2002), 'Raincoat' (2004), 'Guru'(2006), 'Dhoom 2', 'Provoked'(2007), 'Jodhaa Akbar' (2008) and 'Sarkar Raj' (2008). She recently featured in Mani Ratnam's 'Raavan' and opposite superstar Rajnikanth in 'Robot'.

Some of her English projects include 'Bride & Prejudice' (2003), 'Mistress of Spices', 'The Last Legion' (2007) and 'Pink Panther'.

According to a 2009 Forbes list, Aishwarya Rai is India's most bankable star in Hollywood, and is also counted among the 100 most beautiful women in the world.

She has been attending many international film festivals and was also the first Indian actress to be on the jury of the Cannes Film Festival in 2003.

Now she is gearing up for the release of 'Action Replayy' on Diwali and 'Guzaarish', and is busy promoting them. But she hopes to spend some time with her family as she steps into her new year.

Mallika Sherawat's revealing scenes leaked on Youtube

Labels:

Mallika Sherawat`s revealing scenes leaked on YoutubeMallika Sherawat, the hot babe with the fangs quite out like the snake she plays on screen, is quite a gal, as she has managed to attract quite a lot of attention, with her very bold top revealing scenes leaked out in You tube, and thereby creating a sensation for the ogling public!

This sexy 'naagin', or snake woman, has taken the web world by storm, and she has successfully stuck her fangs into the souls of the audiences who crave to see her all bared and sexy image, with perhaps nothing, but a reptile hung over her delicate body, which surely speaks volumes about the courage that this damsel has. After all, how many stars would have the guts to go in for such deadly shots, even if it means enormous publicity?

The movie Hisss, was already in the most awaited list of films of the year and with Mallika's hot contribution, it has only added fuel to fire, thereby, kick starting more attraction and enthusiasm from the audiences, which is going to give a certain boost to the film's response, according to the buzz. At least that's what is expected.

As news about her hot scenes leaked on the web is spreading, more and more people are waiting to see it, inciting a lot of enthusiasm, which of course is quite a positive sign for the actress and the film makers.

I want to play a scheming, vicious manipulator: Katrina Kaif

Labels:

Mumbai: She came, she saw and she conquered! Bollywood’s reigning queen Katrina Kaif has come full circle. Change is what the lass believes is constant. After playing the same kind of role again and again, the actress wants to try out something new. Portraying roles which are often etched on the lines of same old characters she has played earlier, Kat says she’s game for a scheming, vicious manipulator’s role on screen.

It is also believed that the actress wants to move over from acting to filmmaking. She recently locked a deal to produce a French film.

Adapting to a whole new level, Katrina reveals that she will soon be turning producer for a French film and would also like to experiment with a lot different roles on the silver screen.

About her new found quest to seek perfection in filmdom, and cobble together as a producer, she said, “Turning producer is another future plan, and I have certain projects in mind. I`d like to buy the remake rights for a couple of Indian and foreign films. In fact, I`ve already locked the deal for a French film. Playing director is not my cup of tea. But yes, I am beginning to understand the technical aspects of the moviemaking process. Let`s just say I`m finally getting a hang of it.”

She further added, “I am now equipped and ready to move on to the next phase in my life and career. I want to create role opportunities for myself beyond what I`m doing. I am not unhappy with the roles I have but I want to play people I can never be in real life. I want to do a double role, play a sergeant in the army, or a scheming, vicious manipulator.”

Asin declines Salman’s offer to star in ‘Bodyguard’

Labels:

Mumbai: Still considered a newcomer in Bollywood, actress Asin is taking cautious steps towards her career in Tinsel Town. Buzz has it that Asin has declined Salman Khan’s offer to play lead in the Hindi remake of Malayalam blockbuster ‘Bodyguard’.

According to the reports, Salman Khan saw glimpses of film ‘Kavalan’, Tamil remake of ‘Bodyguard’, and was so impressed with the film that he decided to remake the movie in Hindi and that too with the original title ‘Bodyguard’. The movie is said to be produced by Salman’s sister Alvira and Salman himself is going to play the male protagonist in the movie.

Earlier, Salman had suggested to Alvira to cast Asin as the female lead. But, Asin declined saying she doesn’t want to be cast along with Salman after ‘London Dreams’ and Anees Bazmi`s next ‘Ready’.

Interestingly, it’s being said that Asin is in talks over signing a film with superstar Shah Rukh Khan and another with actor Saif Ali Khan.

When contacted, a guarded Asin said, "One makes wrong choices, turns down roles in films that eventually turn out to be hits. No regrets. I`d rather focus on getting my act right."

'Saw' Slices the Box Office Competition!

Labels: ,

Lionsgate’s 'Saw 3D,' the seventh installment of the wildly successful horror franchise has made its final chapter a memorable one at the box office this weekend with $24.2 million.  3D is experiencing a mini-revival after meeting with resistance from both moviegoers and filmmakers earlier this year and apparently has now found favor with younger audiences looking for an over-the-top experience that is tailor made for a genre movie such as 'Saw.'

For seven straight years the character of Jigsaw has made audiences squirm in their seats and happily plunk down their hard-earned cash for the privilege.  The addition of the 3D component supercharged this 'Saw' which accounted for 91% of the weekend tally.  2,100 3D locations out of a total of 2,808 theatres enabled the film to take the franchise out on a high note.  With a franchise average opening weekend of $26.6 million, this 'Saw' found itself right in the sweet spot and offered a fitting end to seven years of profit-making and seven years of scaring the crap out of moviegoers to the tune of $394 million in total domestic revenue.

After a truly scary $40.7 million debut last weekend, Paramount’s 'Paranormal Activity 2' had another solid weekend with $16.5 million.  A nearly 60% drop was to be expected given the enormity of the opening weekend and the new found competition from the number one film.  Mid-week grosses in the $2 million range showed that interest remained strong leading up to the genre-friendly Halloween weekend.  Add to that the IMAX experience and in just ten days of release the film has generated an impressive $65.6 million.

One of the true fall success stories, Summit’s 'RED' has shown remarkable staying power based on solid word-of-mouth and earlier this week it was still grossing over $1 million per day.  A tiny 28% third weekend drop and a weekend gross of 10.8 million enabled the Bruce Willis ensemble action movie to remain in the thick of the box office fight and a domestic gross of nearly $60 million.

'Jackass 3D' amazingly passed the $100 million mark this weekend after just seventeen days of release.  With $8.5 million in its third weekend, even a 60% drop cannot keep these jackasses from laughing all the way to the bank.  With profit-margins off the chart, look out for more “Jackass” antics in the future.

Rounding out the top five is Warner Bros.’ 'Hereafter' with $6.3 million against a 47% second weekend of wide release drop and a total gross to date of $22.2 million.  As is typical for Clint Eastwood, the director creates films that attract older viewers who head out to the theatre over time and thus make his movies marathon performers rather than sprinters.

This was another “up” weekend vs. last year as we near the $9 billion mark in year-to-date revenue with attendance topping the 1.1 billion mark.  Next weekend exemplifies the diversity of the holiday movie season as it kicks off with a mix of comedy (Warner Bros.’ 'Due Date'),” family 3D animation (Paramount/Dreamworks’ 'Mega-Mind'), Oscar-worthy fare (Fox Searchlight’s '127 Hours' starring James Franco) and Tyler Perry with Lionsgate’s 'For Colored Girls…'.  Perhaps the best time to be a moviegoer, the holiday season mixes comedy, summer-style action, family fare and Oscar contenders together in the multi-plex and this year looks to be one of the strongest in terms of quality that we have seen in many years.  And that’s a good thing as we head into the final two months of the box office year.

Featured Baava Movie Review

Baava telugu Movie

Bava Movie Review
Behind the Movie Bava: Young and Talented Siddharth is desperate to prove that, he is the hero with substance. With row of failures striking his career, Sid has joined the King of Comedy Dr. Rajendra Prasad for this ‘Bava’ which has beautiful Maradalu Praneetha besides. With Chakri’s music and debutant director Rambabu’s talent mixed, ‘Bava’ arrived today in theatres. Let us see, what this ‘Bava’ has to say our Telugu audience.
In the Movie Bava: Veera Babu (Siddharth) and his gang is considered most naughty and mischievous in the village of Venkatapuram in Coastal region of AP. Unable to bear the nuisance of Veera Babu, entire village plans to parcel him out but always saved by his friendly father Sitaramudu (Rajendra Prasad).
As movie goes on with funny episodes, Veera Babu falls in love with Vara Lakshmi called as Varam (Praneetha), daughter of Durga Prasad (Ahuthi Prasad), the big land lord in the village. Veera Babu woos Varam to an extent that she reminds her childhood days where in she also reminds that Veera Babu is none other than her childhood love and accepts his love instantly.
Here comes the regular twist, as Durga Parasad decides the marriage of Varam with Lankala Gudem local politician Chenchu Ramaiah (Tanikella)’s son who is so cruel in his attitude. Situations turn up in such a way that, to make Varam happy Veera Babu marries her in the local temple but Sitaramudu comes up with a flash back which comes up with a point that, Varam is none other than Maradalu to Veera Babu and both the families separated due to the love story of Sitaramudu with Rajya Lakshmi, sister of Durga Prasad.
How did Veera Babu etch out a plan to join both the families? What did he loose in implementing this plan? How did Veera Babu save Durga Prasad and Varam from the clutches of Chenchu Ramaiah? forms the remaining story.
Values of the Movie Bava: Siddharth’s performance as a Konaseema Bullodu received huge applause in theatre. His attempt to speak in pure Komaseema dialect has worked 100% giving the required punch to dialogues. Still, Siddharth falls flat with sentimental and emotional scenes repeating his old style as what we have seen in ‘Bomamrillu.’ Praneetha has shown ease before the camera and her introduction was superb as director cashed upon her sex appeal. Looks wise, she may not be that beautiful but Praneetha seems to be the right mix of glamour with performance. Rajendra Prasad’s character hasn’t been used properly. The time he remains on the screen, he was perfect as usual. Ahuthi Prasad was regular while remaining Venu, Kasi Vishwanath, Bharath, Raghu Babu, Tanikella, Sindhu Tolani, Ali were just okay. Brahmanandam as spoof to ‘Varudu’ five days marriage concept was better initially but bored later.
Story by Rambabu was oldest of the times tested several times in Telugu films. The nativity and Konaseema touch added to the script has made ‘Bava’ a thorough entertainer in first half. Rambabu lost his grip as the movie progresses and his direction becomes rotten as story proceeds while audience loose enthusiasm with boring sentimental and emotional scenes. Veera Pothana’s dialogues sparked only in comedy scenes. Cinematography by Aravind Krishna was best in catching the beauty of Konaseema. Editing by Krishna Reddy failed as many scenes in second half needs to be curtailed. Music by Chakri was good for just two songs. Production values of Chowdary are also average.
Out of the Movie Bava: Siddharth proves that, he can even pull a mass entertainer given the right ingredients to excel. Basically, ‘Bava’ remains highlighted for entertainment in first half and all credits to Siddharth’s peculiar comedy timing. Story of the movie and routine script with heavy dose of melodrama is what made ‘Bava’ a boring tale. Audience who go into loud whistles for first one hour of the film will loose their balance and start shouting for the over dramatic sentimental scenes which haven’t worked in entire second half. Director Rambabu is for sure a worthy technician, if he deals with comic entertainers rather than this silly junk emotional stuff.  The take off speed taken by Rambabu wasn’t sustained as movie fails to appeal the audience.
First half has enough comedy and good songs while second half takes the beating with unnecessary and lengthy melodrama. Siddharth’s performance, Praneetha’s glamour, Good comedy, two songs serve positives for ‘Bava’ while Lengthy sentiment scenes, Boring second half, routine story and rotten script serve enough negative to kill ‘Bava’
BO potentiality of ‘Bava’ depends more on how families embrace Siddharth and his maradalu Praneetha.
Bava: An average entertainer with good first half and tear jerking second half.
