Celebrity Stardom – Why do Kids of Bollywood superstars Often Fail?

Children of actors become actors, politicians children become politicians and doctors will encourage their children to become doctors – isn’t this the norm? Somehow this seems to be the natural progression of life for centuries.
This is probably the reason so many generations of filmy families seem to be in evidence in the Bollywood movies scene. Everyone is related to everyone, and sooner or later the next generation moves up and steps into the shoes of their parents and attempts to walk down the same path.

But how many of them have succeeded? How many of them have realized their full potential? How many of them have surpassed their parents achievements and made a niche for themselves? There are very few who have managed to do this. They can be counted on your fingers – Hrithik Roshan, Kareena and Karishma, to some extent Sunny and Bobby Deol, Abhisekh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor and maybe a few others.
Why have the others such as Esha Deol, Twinkle Kapadia, Kumar Gaurav, Tushar Kapoor disappointed you?  They have the looks, they have the genes and the guidance which may be needed from their well known parents. Where did they lose and why did they lose out in the race in Bollywood?

The answers to these questions are not necessarily the same for each individual performer, but a few common factors have been listed in this article.

Talent:
Many of them have not shown the same talent and abilities which their parents had. They somehow seem to be pale shadows of their parents, and the same spark does not seem to exist. Tushaar Kapoor has made a niche for himself as a star of light hearted films, and Abhay Deol has made a mark as a phenomenal actor of serious cinema. They cannot be termed as failures but then they are not great box office stars either.

Audience expectations:
Maybe we expect too much from them. We set high standards and are very fickle in our likes and dislikes. We do not give them enough time to prove themselves. New actors who do not have this same great lineage are not expected to perform miracles with their first films. The build up is not so great, and they do not have as much publicity as the celebrity kids.
Competition:
There is no dearth of talent nowadays among the new stars or even among those who came a decade ago. The competition is immense and even celebrity kids have to compete for their slot. The best banners and the finest directors are available for them, but they also have to prove their talent.

Personal Reasons:
There are also many personal reasons why some of them fail. They may be launched with immense fanfare by their own families, but when they perform for other banners, they are not able to give their best. Good looks and a great body are a prerequisite in Bollywood movies these days, and some of them have been found lacking in this segment.

Exceptions to the Rule:
Celebrity kids often fail in Bollywood movies, but those who succeed manage to give us a glimpse of their immense talent and their phenomenal good looks. The exceptions to the rule are the ones who will continue to delight us on the silver screen and stars such as Kareena, Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor and Abhishekh will be there for many years to come.
